چکیده

We examined 61 lung cancer cases to determine whether alterations of p73, a novel monoallelically expressed p53-like molecule, may be involved in the pathogenesis of lung cancer. Allelic loss at the/;73 locus at Ip36.33 was observed in 42% (11 of 26 informative cases), and squamous cell carcinoma tended to carry this lesion most frequently. Somatic mutations in the p73 gene itself, however, were not detected, despite our extensive search. We found interindividual difference in the alleile expression of p73 in normal lung, as well as intertissue variance, even within the same individual, but preferential loss of the expressed alÃ-eleappeared to be an unlikely mechanism for p73 inactivation. This study, consequently, sug gests the presence of an as yet unidentified tumor suppressor gene or genes within the subtelomeric region of Ip, warranting further studies aimed at its isolation.

Expression level, allelic origin, and mutation analysis of the p73 gene in neuroblastoma tumors and cell lines.

The novel p73 gene is a structural and, in overexpression systems, functional p53 homologue. p73 resides on chromosome 1p36.33 within a commonly deleted region in neuroblastoma (NB) and other human tumors. To evaluate p73's candidacy for a NB suppressor, we analyzed 28 primary NB tumors, 14 NB cell lines, and 5 non-NB malignant pediatric tumors. We determined the level of p73 expression and its...

Mutations of p53 Gene in Skin Cancers: a Case Control Study

Background: The most frequently mutated tumor suppressor gene found in human cancer is p53. In a normal situation, p53 is activated upon the induction of DNA damage to either arrest the cell cycle or to induce apoptosis. However, when mutated, p53 is no longer able to properly accomplish these functions. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of p53 gene in cases of skin cancer...

P-201: The Role of P53 Family Members in Infertility

Background: P53, p63, and p73 transcription factors which are belong to The p53 family, are conserved during evolution. They have important roles in many molecular and cellular functions, including tumor suppression, the development of epithelial cell layers, and the development of central nervous system and immune system. Studies show these molecules also have role in maintaining the genomic i...

Effect of trichostatin A on histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC 1) and CIP/KIP (p21CIP1/WAF1, p27KIP1, and p57KIP2) gene expression, cell growth inhibition and apoptosis induction in lung cancer COR-L105 cell line. Abstract

Effect of trichostatin A on histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC 1) and CIP/KIP (p21CIP1/WAF1, p27KIP1, and p57KIP2) gene expression, cell growth inhibition and apoptosis induction in lung cancer COR-L105 cell line. Abstract Background: Lung cancer is one the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, with more than 1.2 million deaths each year. In addition to genetic mutations, epigenetic modif...
